Thank you for the article. My car is at the garage at the moment and they said I needed a new wheel bearing. Your article helped my to avoid sounding like a complete moron when talking to the mechanic!!
My son's 2001 Grand Cherokee Limited needs a new front wheel bearing. We took it to the dealer as our local mechanic told us it should be covered under the 3mo/3000mi power train warranty we got when we purchased the vehicle. The warranty covers "transfer case/power transfer unit & all internal parts, front & rear axle assemblies, axle shafts, AXLE SHAFT BEARINGS, drive shaft assemblies, u-joints & yokes, & viscous coupler assembly". They are saying the wheel bearing is NOT covered because it is a front bearing and only the REAR ones are covered. On a 4WD vehicle, aren't these the same? BTW, on his vehicle, he has the "quadra trac" 4wd.
